Are you looking for an honest Wildgrain review? You’ve come to the right place. This new service offers up frozen sourdough pastas and breads delivered straight to your door. As an avid sourdough fan, I had to try it out.

Wildgrain Box: What Is It?

First, let me explain what Wildgrain is and how it got started.

Wildgrain is the first bake-from-frozen club for sourdough bread, fresh pasta, and pastries. It’s a monthly subscription service and costs $89 per box with free shipping. You can easily skip, pause, or increase the shipment frequency whenever you want.

Wildgrain is based on Boston, Massachusetts and was started by a husband and wife team who were looking for a source of cleaner carbs.

They liked the many health benefits of sourdough and began baking all manner of sourdough goods. They quickly realized other people wanted something similar and so Wildgrain was born.

I really like that they work with skilled, artisan bakeries across the country. In this day-and-age of large, commercial production it’s nice to see a focus on artisanal creators.

Benefits of Sourdough

Not only is sourdough downright delicious, it also has numerous health benefits.

The fermentation process in sourdough:

  • Digests the majority of the gluten in bread.
  • Contains lactic acid, which helps your body absorb more nutrients.
  • Contains prebiotics, making for a healthy guy biome.

This fermentation process takes time and skill to perfect. Being able to bake a frozen loaf at home takes just 25 minutes and is equally nutritious and delicious.

Wildgrain Bread Subscription: How Does it Work?

Subscription services are becoming common-place these days. From survival gear to dog treats and craft projects, you can get just about anything delivered to your door.

The beauty of a subscription is that you won’t accidentally forget to reorder. Things are delivered straight to your door with a set it and forget it ease.

Wildgrain aims to make it super simple to subscribe. To start you’ll choose between the Mixed Box or the Bakery Box.

Your box will be delivered each month. And from there you can put everything in your freezer, and bake whenever you’d like. Everything included is ready in 25 minutes or less. And the selection varies slightly each month.

Wildgrain Review

Now that we’ve covered all the other details, let’s get to the Wildgrain review.

First, placing an order was very simple. I chose the Mixed Box and waited a few days for the first box to arrive.

I liked that I was sent text updates during shipping so I could be sure to get home and put everything in the freezer on the day it arrived. The packaging was visually appealing and everything was kept perfectly frozen thanks to the included dry ice.

I received three loaves of bread, pasta, croissants, and apple turnovers. I placed everything in the freezer and baked things within 30 days of receiving my box.

I was a bit skeptical that it would be delicious, or any better than par-baked bread from the grocery store. To my delight, I was wrong!

First, the sourdough loaf had a chewy, yet crunchy outer shell and a perfectly chewy interior. The flavor was good, with a mild sourdough taste. It’s a great option for people who kinda like sourdough, but aren’t sure they want anything super strong tasting.

The croissants were excellent. Pillowy, crispy, melt-in-your mouth buttery. They were gobbled up immediately and we wished we had more.

Same for the apple turnover bites. Croissant meets apple pie, what more could you want?

I was also pleasantly surprised with the pasta. It’s genuinely better than grocery pasta. It cooks up quickly and truly tastes homemade.

All in all, I was very pleased with everything in our Wildgrain Box.

I could see wanting a stronger, tangier tasting bread, as I’m a big sourdough-flavor fan. But for most people, it offers up just the right balance of sourdough, without being too much.
